4/16/2018 (Permalink)

Here's an example of a flooded basement we took care of in Monroe a while back.

A flooded basement can be an overwhelming experience. It’s hard to know where to even start! But you don’t need to worry. SERVPRO of North Everett/ Lake Stevens/ Monroe is Here To Help. While you wait for help to arrive, here are some Dos and Don’ts to follow.

What to Do After Flooding:

  • Stop the source of flooding.
  • Remove excess water by mopping and blotting.
  • Wipe excess water from wood furniture after removing lamps and tabletop items.
  • Remove and prop wet upholstery and cushions to dry.
  • Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting.
  • Turn air conditioning on for maximum drying in summer.
  • Remove colored rugs from wet carpeting.
  • Remove art objects to a safe, dry place.
  • Gather loose items from floors.

What Not to Do After Flooding:

  • Don’t enter your basement if water is high enough to cover outlets or other appliances.
  • Don't leave wet fabrics in place. Hang furs and leather goods.
  • Don't leave books, magazines or other colored items on wet carpet or floors.
  • Don't use your household vacuum to remove water.
  • Don't use television or other household appliances in the flooded area.
  • Don't turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet, and keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging.
